Does this model LAC9000384EK really include 256Bit HW encryption? As I did not see this specification / feature on LaCie's website and can this also format with Ext4?

No, the hard disk does not have HW encryption, but the software supplied (LaCie Backup Software) can encrypt backups:

However, it is only available for Windows and Mac and both cannot handle EXT4.

But in general, it doesn't matter to the HDD what you partition it with.... The operating system must support the file format.
