The watch measures the pulse 24x7. However, when I was jogging, I noticed that the pulse is relatively inaccurate. For this reason, I bought the chest strap.

The pulse sensor can generally be switched on or off.
The pulse measurement can also be "sent", e.g. to a Garmin Edge bike computer. This works well for me.
