Does the device also work directly with mobile devices?
Yes, works directly in Class Compliant mode if the mobile device is equipped with an operating system such as iOS, Mac OS X, Linux and Windows 10 (since 1709) Windows 11. An adapter from the mobile device to the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE may be necessary.

29 General information
The ADI-2/4 Pro SE works in Class Compliant mode (UAC 2.0), a standard that is natively supported by operating systems such as iOS, Mac OS X, Linux and Windows 10 (since 1709). No further drivers are then required, a device is recognised directly.
The ADI-2/4 Pro SE provides iOS devices with the professional analogue I/Os they lack. Professional balanced and unbalanced line inputs and outputs, two Extreme Power headphone outputs that work perfectly with all high- and low-impedance headphones, comprehensive amplification and level settings, and a wide range of analogue inputs and outputs.and level settings, AES, SPDIF and ADAT I/O connections, PCM recording/playback at up to 768 kHz, and DSD recording/playback at up to 11.2 MHz (DSD256). An app like Neutron can actually play back files with up to 768 kHz sample rate and DSD 256 natively via the ADI-2/4 Pro SE in Basic mode stereo.
The ADI-2/4 Pro SE does not supply power to the iPad/iPhone. The newer Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter from Apple contains a Lightning socket for connecting the standard Apple power supply, allowing the i-Device to be charged while employed in Class Compliant mode with the ADI-2/4 Pro SE.
30 System requirements
- Any Apple iPad with at least iOS 6, or iPhone with at least iOS 7
- Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit or Lightning to USB adapter
- iPad Pro: no active adapter, only USB-B to USB-C cable or plug adapter
31 Setup
Connect the USB cable to the Camera Connection Kit/Lightning Adapter/iPad Pro. Now start the i-Device and plug the kit/adapter into the socket on the i-Device. If everything works as expected, the ADI-2/4 Pro SE will now be used for all audio I/O. Audio playback from iTunes takes place automatically via the ADI-2/4 Pro SE on the analogue outputs 1/2 and 3/4.
