Does the conversion from the analogue to the digital signal really make a difference worth 160.-!

As has already been said, a DAC does the opposite of what you describe. Your PC already has a DAC built in. The question is how good it already is. In most cases it makes a very big difference, as long as you connect good speakers or headphones. If you only have Logitech speakers, then even the internal DAC is too bad.
Think of it this way: If you're serious about graphics or you're a gamer, you'll buy a graphics card instead of using the CPU's graphics unit. If you want to enjoy decent sound, you do the same with sound. Depending on the headphones, internal sound units do not have the power to operate them. You then need a sound card, which you can't install in a laptop. That is why this USB DAC is offered.

Of course, it depends on which devices (mainboard, loudspeakers) you are using, but if you have reasonably decent loudspeakers connected (Teufel Stereo M in my case), you can hear the difference very clearly. I like music, but I'm not the audiophile type and I was really amazed how the music sounded much more transparent when I used this DAC. I would buy the DAC again at any time.

it is worth buying this dac (digital-analog converter) if you want to listen to good quality music via speakers or headphones. the built-in dac in the pc (jack output) never offers the same quality. of course, the quality also depends on the quality of the music files themselves - preferably flac files or directly from cd or then high quality mp3 files. the bottom line is that everything is better via this dac than via the pc's/notebook's jack output, unless you have a high-end sound card built into the pc, which is usually not the case if you don't work in the music field.

A DAC does exactly the opposite: it turns a digital signal into an analogue one -> external sound card. Whether it makes a difference in this case I cannot judge, but in principle a good DAC can produce an audibly better result on the headphones. It can also usually handle high-impedance headphones better. And by the way, the price is open - if it's worth it, you can spend 5000 or more francs for it.

I use the unit via an optical cable from the TV receiver, power via USB charger.
If there is no signal at the input, it is not possible to determine acoustically whether the unit is switched on.
The sound is also very balanced (perhaps the Beyerdynamic DT-880 is not entirely innocent of this).
In addition, the workmanship is very high quality.
