Does anyone know whether the power switch only switches on the docking station or also the notebook (e.g. my Dell with the lid closed)? I know that it doesn't work in every constellation, just whether it would be intended that way... Many thanks for any answers.

Hello,

On/Off button can only turn the docking station. 
But Dell has a setting called /Power on AC" in BIOS - when this option is enabled, the laptop will turn on automatically if laptops will start receiving power. So if you would turn on the docking station, the docking station would start charging your laptop and the laptop would turn on automatically.
