Question about BenQ Screenbar Plus
Does anyone have any experience of whether this lamp also helps to illuminate one's own face a little better in video conferences?

Only minimally. You will only see the difference if the room is otherwise very dark / poorly lit (similar to the difference between whether the screen is displaying something bright or dark). The aim of the lamp is precisely that it does not dazzle, and thus does not emit light at eye level.
But you could probably make a small reflector with some photo paper or aluminium foil :)
