Do the "unnecessary symbols" disappear when only one SIM card is inserted? - Reception strength display - Double symbols for phone and SMS? Unfortunately I couldn't find any information on this...

No, the icons do not disappear, but on the start screen you can add/remove the icons manually. However, the reception indicator always remains visible.
