Lead batteries do not cost much, calculate from 40 - 70 Swiss francs per battery. However, these batteries should last for more than 250 charging cycles (400 - 600). However, it is also possible to switch to LiFe batteries, which are very expensive but can last up to 1000 cycles, if not more. These can also maintain the voltage relatively well, whereas the voltage of lead batteries can drop quite a bit at full speed.
The E300 is not protected against water (electronics), but with appropriate treatment this can be changed.
It can also be ridden without motor assistance, but this is very strenuous, so it is better to walk, unless you want to do endurance training :D
But then please remember that the E300 is not roadworthy! To make it so, according to the Astra, the following must be changed if you do not want to apply for type approval:
-Speed has to be changed to 20 km/h, for this you can find appropriate translations on the internet (e.g. ebay).
-Front and rear lighting: it is best to simply buy bicycle lights which also have a reflector for the rear lighting.
-Fit a bicycle bell.

In addition: The motor controller that is installed here is sufficient for approval (fuse installed). However, I recommend a motor controller that is continuously adjustable, for example this one:
