No, the Wahoo Elemnt Roam does not have an SD card slot! The maps are predefined by the manufacturer and can simply be activated after use, i.e. loaded onto the device. For example, I now only ride with the CH map (Switzerland). Maps are therefore also renewed directly by the manufacturer and can be updated at any time without a subscription.
I also use a Garmin Edge 1000 (in parallel). So I can compare very well. I see the biggest advantage of the Wahoo Roam simply in the handling of tours (planned via Komoot). Everything is synchronised in both directions at the touch of a button. The Wahoo Roam display is easy to read. Routing functions are top!
