Can the lamp be attached to a ceiling hook?

I don't think it's designed for that. Even if it were somehow possible, it probably wouldn't look that great.
I used three screws (in the dowels) to attach the metal base first. The lamp itself is then hung on 3 wires, which gives convenient access to the cables. Once electrically everything is connected. The lamp is lifted and fixed by turning it slightly towards the metal base. Everything then looks flush.
