Can the function keys F1-F12 be set as default so that Fn+Key does not always have to be pressed?

There is a lock on the ESC key. If you press the fn key and the ESC key together, you can switch to F1-12 without installing the Logitech software.

What can I say. It works for me. Is the behaviour different after installing the logitech software? As I said. I have not installed it. Operating system is windows 7
