Question about Philips Hue White & Color Ambiance Extension

As far as I know, you need a HueBridge for all Philips Hue lamps to connect the lamps to the internet. To be able to operate the lamps with a smartphone or to need Echo. Without a bridge, you can only control the lamp with a Philips Hue Dimmer or a Philips Hue Tap.

Exactly as Pscl_21 said, because the lamps are controlled via ZigBee as a radio protocol. The only addition: There are other hubs (e.g. the Lightify Gateway from Osram) that can also be used.
