Can I install the graphics card on my PC? Current PC: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=c03625340 Mainboard: IPMMB-FM (Formosa) Current graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680
Hello GiantLich,
theoretically, you can safely install the graphics card because you have a PCIe x16 slot. However, there are one or two things to consider:
- The size of the graphics card: the dimensions of the graphics card are 28 x 14 x 4 cm. This is most likely bigger than your old GraKa, so you may run out of space in the case or on the mainboard (which seems pretty tight).
- The power supply: First, the power consumption is higher, second, you need a different power connector. The 600W power supply shouldn't be a problem, but check if you have a PCI-E 8-pin power connector, which the GTX 970 needs. Otherwise, there seem to be other GTX 970 models where you can get an adapter, e.g. the MSI card.
And then I just want to briefly point out that there are some users here who say that the AMD Radeon models deliver much better value for money, so you can also consider getting an R9 390 Nitro, although of course the same considerations as above have to be made!
