Can I also connect the C5 to a Swisscom router?
Sali Chreichen, you can connect the AVM-C5 to the Swisscom router, but in this combination "only" telephoning with number dialling via the keypad on the C5 is possible.
All AVM-C5 special so-called comfort functions cannot be used with the Swisscom router. I.e.
- The AVM-C5 cannot be updated;
- the telephone book does not work;
- WLAN cannot be switched on and off, etc.
- It's really only possible to make phone calls like in the old days (dial number and wait for connection).
I would only want to combine the AVM-C5 with a FritzBox.
Hope that answers your question...
DECT always works. WLAN is not up for discussion here. Gigaset and Fritzboxes only support DECT for the telephone set. Everything else depends on the base station or router. All other Internet-specific functions are also transported via DECT, but they are product-specific and not compatible.
It also works flawlessly with the Horizonbox from UPC, but the Y-cable must be plugged in correctly; there is also information about this on the Internet.
The C5 is a DECT telephone that can be connected to GAP-compatible DECT base stations. A base station is not supplied. In my case, this is the Fritz!Box. When combined with a Fritz!Box with DECT, it has a few more AVM-specific comfort functions. There are also Fritz!Boxes without DECT, in which case the C5 (or C4) does not work either.
It is not a SIP phone that can be connected to a router via WLAN. The SIP must be able to talk to the base station and DECT-GAP to the handset.
I don't have a Swisscom connection, but the website only says something about WLAN, nothing about DECT support.
What certainly works are phones that offer these functions in the filter: Under telephone type "Fixed network" and "VoIP" and under telephone connection "Ethernet". An example would be the Gigaset S850 A GO or Gigaset C530 IP. You can certainly connect the C5 to these DECT base stations from Gigaset.
I bought the C5 because I am a Sunrise subscriber and had a FritzBox from Sunrise as my router. Of course, it worked without any problems and all functions were supported.
I have no experience of how it is compatible with the Swisscom router.
