On my late 2013 Retina, 15" macbook pro, the output on this screen works using an additional cable (either HDMI or Mini DisplayPort).

Yes, you can, I have a MacBook Pro on it. Power is supplied via the socket, not via the Mac, as the energy is not sufficient. I'm very happy with the screen, also in terms of size.

You can connect and charge Apple laptops via the USB-C port. This is available on newer MacBooks.
