can a Nintendo Switch be connected directly to the Asus Zenscreen (USB-C) port using USB-C?

Correct. The Nintendo Switch cannot be connected with this screen. The ASUS ZenScreen Touch MB16AMT would have to be used for this.

Please note: only works with an original Nintendo Switch charger!

No, the USB-C port on the switch does not support a video signal or the DisplayPort protocol.
