According to the internet, wifi-calling should be possible, but I can't find this setting ? Does the EU version not support this?

The providers only support mass-produced goods. I would ask the hotline and pretend that you have a Samsung. The option "Wi-Fi calling" should appear under Settings -> More as soon as the provider activates the function. Alternatively, I would use a SIP account, then you have a different number, but you can still enjoy roaming freedom and reception in GSM radio holes when abroad.
