Pencil Sharpener GEDESS
When the first mechanical pencils hit the market in the late 1930s, there was a need for a device that sharpened only the lead without damaging the metal casing. Swiss inventor Georges Dessonnaz from Fribourg developed a pencil sharpener and filed for a patent (Swiss Patent from April 9, 1939, US Patent from May 20, 1941). The initials of his name formed the name for the sharpener: GEDESS. The drawing from the patent document does not yet show the current design, which has been in use since around 1944, but the fundamental idea has remained intact. In its new, modern form, the GEDESS was also exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
For leads ranging from 2 mm to 4 mm in thickness. The lead is sharpened by rotating the inserted pencil. Comes with a plastic catch container, light gray, individually packaged in a cardboard box.
