The CAN-CR220 repeater with two CAN channels serves to provide galvanic isolation between two segments of a CAN network and offers a very high galvanic isolation of 3 kV, making it suitable for use in medical applications. It can be used to increase the load capacity of the CAN bus with nodes, for the physical coupling of CAN bus systems, or to insert galvanic isolation. 2. Ixxat CAN@net NT 200 CAN-Ethernet Gateway

The CAN@net NT is offered as the CAN@net NT 200 with two classic CAN channels. The devices feature three operating modes and can be used as both a PC interface and as a bridge and gateway.

In gateway mode, the CAN@net NT can be accessed from different operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux, VxWorks, or QNX) and from embedded systems. This is done via a standard TCP/IP socket and a simple ASCII protocol. Thus, the CAN@net NT provides a simple and flexible access to CAN systems over a LAN or the Internet as a CAN-Ethernet gateway.

With the included VCI driver for Windows, the CAN@net NT can be operated like all IXXAT CAN PC interface cards. By using two CAN@net NT 200 devices, a CAN-Ethernet-CAN bridge can be realized, connecting up to 2 independent CAN channels per device. The bridge enables the exchange of CAN messages between CAN systems via TCP/IP over long distances, utilizing existing Ethernet infrastructures. This segmentation of CAN systems also increases the reliability and fault tolerance of the overall system.

With the help of mapping tables, the message exchange between all channels can be configured very flexibly. Filtering and transformation rules can be applied to the CAN messages, thereby reducing the bus load in the individual networks, as only messages that are of interest to the other network are transmitted.

Operating Principle:
Unlike a CAN repeater, which only translates electrical signals, the bridge/router fully receives messages and then sends them to the other network while considering filtering, translation, mapping, and multiplexing rules (store-and-forward principle). Using mapping tables, message exchange between all four networks is possible. With the help of filtering and translation rules, CAN messages can be filtered or modified. This reduces bus load in the individual networks, as only messages of interest to the other network are transmitted.
