My recommendation for 2019 / early 2020

With this device, Nokia has created what I consider a fantastic trilogy of affordable mid-range smartphones. The Nokia 7.2 is currently my number one recommendation for anyone who doesn't want to pick up a purple banknote because of a logo. The only criticism that might come up for the few people who haven't yet gotten used to a large mobile phone is the size of the screen, and thus of the device. My experience is that you quickly get used to it and even learn to appreciate it, even if you don't often watch films or play games.

FAQ:

Q: "At this price, there must be a catch, right?"
A: It depends on what you expect. For example, savings are made on the processor, which is not the high-end flagship model. However, no normal person will notice this (not bother, just notice). Another cost-cutting measure is the lack of anorexia, which has two advantages. Firstly, the battery is very generous at 3500 mAh and secondly, there is still room for the beloved headphone jack.

Q: "Why not a cheap Samsung or Huawei?"
A: Unlike other manufacturers, the Android on Nokia devices is "unpolluted", without (mostly unwanted) additional software. I like the design of pure Android much better. It also runs more smoothly and the updates are available much earlier.

Q: "W'ish camera?"
A: More than good enough for what you want to "shoot". With smartphones, the camera software and post-processing is much more important than anything else anyway. But yes, camera's great.

After several years of Sony, I bought the Nokia 7.2. At first, I was positively surprised by the display, the camera and the rather quick charging. However, after a few weeks I had to realise that this device has very big deficits. Many apps, including Facebook, do not run at all or only with errors and crash constantly. Even uninstalling and reinstalling them several times does not help. The GPS is also unusable and only works rarely on cloud-free days and usually only for a short time. The display has the sensitivity of a granite slab. In addition, the device switches off suddenly and without notice even when the battery is charged, just like in the early 2000s. I can't understand why this hasn't been fixed in 20 years. My tip: Hands off Nokia, they are not worth the low price.
