Who "needs" 165hz should look for another monitor, because at 165hz OD becomes unusable and you have to choose between strong black level ghositng and green/red artifacts. At 144hz, on the other hand, OD (I have it set to 40) works very well and ghosting is really excellent for a VA panel. At 144hz, you can use 10bit colors at any rate.
If you can live with 144hz, you get an ultrawide screen, with very nice colors (I don't know how accurate they are though), top contrast and little ghosting. However, if you want 165hz you should look for another screen.
That's definitely the case with my panel, maybe Asus has quality control issues here too and some panels work fine at 165hz.
