I am just SO DESPERATE for Creative!!1!einself

Was happy with these speakers for about 12 years. However, as time went on, the right speaker got quieter and one day went silent forever. Erfeut noted that the model still exists, I ordered a replacement right away.

But Creative didn't document this in the manual or anywhere else: The currently sold revision has a perfidious power saving function!

After 12 minutes without sound output, the speakers go into standby mode.
A sound signal at the input activates the sound output again. But this takes about 5 seconds. Far longer than notification tones last.

For a few days I kept missing chat messages in the home office because of this, and thought some Youtube videos were amateurishly coded. Once I wanted to listen to music and no sound came up (the song starts very quietly), I was only slightly irritated when I turned up the volume, only to have my ears blown off by an explosion of sound!
I looked for the error in the music file. I looked for the error in the audio player. I looked for the bug in the operating system. I looked for the bug in the codec. I looked for the bug in the sound chip. I attributed the fault to the docking station, which developed coil whine around the same time.
And today, purely by accident, I read on a tech forum from someone how they made a script that produces an inaudibly high pitched sound every 10 minutes to get around this very problem, and realize they have the same speakers.
