The fingering is baroque, and environmentally friendly materials have been used. The improved breath response and control in the high register contribute to the playing quality. The recorder consists of three parts. The body of the recorder is made from biomass plastic Unitika Terramac, which is the world's first application of eco-friendly plant-based materials in a musical instrument. The material change has resulted in a soft, centered sound that resembles that of wooden recorders, as well as improved breath response and control in high ranges. For the first time, bright colors reminiscent of plants like corn have been used for the recorders and cases. Terramac is an environmentally friendly material produced using a technology developed by Unitika LTD. to combine polylactic acid (PLA) with other materials to enhance and shape the outcome. Terramac is commonly used in products ranging from food containers to components for electronic devices. Yamaha contributes to the development of a more sustainable society by committing to prevent global warming and reduce the consumption of chemical resources while simultaneously producing high-quality musical instruments. The product consists of at least 80% bio-based plastic. Bio-based plastics are produced from renewable carbon resources, such as components of wood and plant biomass. The combustion of such plastics is CO2-neutral, as photosynthesis converts the generated CO2 back into biomass. These plastics are not necessarily biodegradable.
