Gold-plated connectors with strain relief. The wires, made of 100% copper, are double shielded. A wire is a conductor made up of many thin individual strands, making it flexible. Additionally, it has high tensile strength. The cable also features strain relief. Unlike conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free: the dangerous release of halogen-containing combustion gases is therefore excluded. Another advantage is that the exposure to toxic gases (such as hydrogen chloride gas in PVC) is minimized. Halogen-free cables are also flame-resistant and do not exhibit a dangerous "fuse effect." Furthermore, halogen-free cables produce low smoke in the event of a fire. Screened Foiled Twisted Pair (S/FTP) refers to cables that have a metallic shield around each pair of wires (FTP) and an additional overall metallic shield (S).
