The Magnastat system operates using a permanent magnet and a ferromagnetic temperature sensor. When the soldering tip is cold, the permanent magnet is attracted by the ferromagnetic temperature sensor. In this state, the switch is closed and the heating element is activated. As the temperature sensor approaches its Curie point, which corresponds to the selected tip temperature, its magnetic behavior changes and the heating is turned off. If the tip cools down slightly, the temperature sensor is attracted again, and the control loop starts anew. The working temperature is selected by simply changing the soldering tip equipped with the attached temperature sensor. The soldering tips cover temperature ranges of 260°, 310 °C, 370 °C, 425 °C, and 480 °C.
