Small diaphragm condenser microphone with output transformer. Class-A signal path. CineMag output transformer. Cardioid pattern. Vintage microphone capsule. 48 V phantom power. Frequency response: 20 Hz - 20 kHz. This vintage-style microphone features a Class-A signal path with a CineMag transformer, Fairchild transistors, and Wima capacitors. As a classic small diaphragm microphone, it is suitable for a variety of applications, including acoustic and electric guitars and basses, drums, piano, strings, and brass instruments. The use of a CineMag output transformer with a nickel core gives the WA-84 a very large sound for its small size. In recent years, small diaphragm condenser microphones have been built almost exclusively without transformers to simplify design and reduce manufacturing costs. Warm Audio consciously chose to go against this trend in developing the WA-84. Instead, a boutique design emerged, featuring the legendary sound of the 60s and 70s, known for its crystal-clear yet creamy-soft tone.
