The skin effect, also known as current displacement, is a physical phenomenon caused by higher frequency alternating currents. The current density inside the conductor decreases with increasing frequency compared to the surface. The inner cross-sectional area of a conductor carrying high-frequency alternating current practically has no transmission function.
