With the DR-680, high-quality multi-track recordings on the go are affordable for everyone – whether for rehearsal and concert recordings or for outdoor and surround recordings. Up to eight tracks can be recorded in professional broadcast wave format on an SD memory card with sampling rates up to 96 kHz at a resolution of 24 bits. Six microphone inputs provide 60 dB of gain as well as phantom power for clear recordings with condenser microphones. If the user adds a digital source in SPDIF format to the six analog input signals, a total of eight recording tracks are available.

The recorder's inputs can be monitored through a built-in mixer, which provides level and pan controls for each channel. The resulting stereo mix can be recorded along with the six input signals, allowing for quick stereo monitoring of the recording session. Additionally, a small built-in speaker enables quick playback of recordings even without headphones.

For the highest demands – such as mastering – the DR-680 offers the ability to record two tracks at a sampling rate of 192 kHz with 24-bit resolution. Up to four tracks can also be recorded simultaneously in space-saving MP3 format (from firmware v1.10) – ideal for voice recordings like conference recordings. And for those needing up to 16 battery-operated recording tracks, simply connect two recorders together. An AC adapter, USB cable, and carrying strap are included in the package.
