The 1/16 R/C M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer was the first R/C model kit introduced by TAMIYA in 1974. This marked the beginning of TAMIYA's more than 50-year history in the R/C industry. This legendary kit is the updated version of item 56014 1/16 R/C M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer, featuring a new gearbox. It uses a new 540 type motor, replacing the two 380 motors from the old version. A highlight of this model is the differential steering system, which is technically modeled after an original tank. Generally, tanks use a clutch-brake-steering system: the power from the centrally located motor is transmitted to both tracks, and the speeds can be controlled via brake discs. This allows the tank to be steered by varying the rotations between the right and left tracks. During World War II, most American tanks were equipped with this steering system.
