SPL SMC 7.1 Surround Monitoring Control

The SMC 7.1 expands analog surround monitoring to 8 channels and offers Solo, Solo-In-Place, and Solo-To-Center functions, as well as a headphone output. Two 7.1 and two stereo input sources can be connected to the SMC 7.1. This is important because monitoring always involves comparing two outputs. A subwoofer can be added to a stereo input by activating the LFE button. Each speaker can be turned on and off individually, and the SMC 7.1 remembers the last used speakers for each source. The Solo-In-Place function turns the speaker on/off switches into solo buttons, allowing each speaker to be heard alone in its position. Solo-To-Center places the selected speaker on the center speaker, enabling critical listening directly from the front. An alternative output is available for connecting a stereo speaker pair. The 45-mm full-aluminum rotary knob controls an 8-step potentiometer. Mute is particularly important when the DAW sends full-range audio due to an issue. Mute can be quickly activated to protect speakers and hearing. Alternatively, headphones can also be used for monitoring. Headphones can be turned on and have their own volume control.
