The popular Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T 24-70 mm F2.8 zoom has been optimized for even higher performance. The lens construction has also been revised for faster capture, and it is dust and moisture resistant. The resolution and contrast of a prime lens are achieved thanks to two aspherical elements and two ED glass elements (Extra-low Dispersion) in a precision optical design by Zeiss. A constant maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout the zoom range ensures consistent exposure settings at any focal length, as well as optimized performance in low light conditions. The SSM drive system (Super Sonic Wave Motor) achieves smooth, quiet autofocus operation and rapid autofocus response in combination with an integrated focusing mechanism. A focus adjustment switch and a focus hold button on the barrel provide more versatile focusing and control options.

Das hochwertige Objektiv ist insgesamt extrem sauber gefertigt und lässt sich somit auch sehr gut und leicht bedienen. Dabei ist zwar die Anfangsblende etwas eingeschränkt aber dennoch als gut zu werten. Die Randabdunklung ist ebenfalls sichtbar aber kaum der Rede wert, sodass das Modell auch in den kritischen Punkten gute Arbeite leistet. Die Auflösung ist extrem hoch sowie sehr gleichmäßig.
