Product details

Sigma has taken on the challenge of developing a zoom lens that offers the brightness and resolution of a prime lens. In other words: the highest level of optical performance and expressiveness. A first success was achieved with the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art. This lens not only met the high demands of the Art product line but was also the world's first APS-C zoom lens with a constant F1.8 aperture throughout the entire focal length range.

Building on this concept, the Sigma 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art has now been introduced, a telephoto zoom lens in the mid-range with a large diameter. This new lens offers more brightness than an F2.8 telephoto lens and, due to its zoom functionality, covers the focal lengths of three classic prime lenses: 85mm F1.8, 105mm F1.8, and 135mm F1.8 (equivalent focal length ranges). The lens sets new standards for image quality in zoom lenses and is ideal for portraits due to its beautiful bokeh.

In designing the lens, we placed great emphasis from the beginning on examining susceptibility to reflections and ghosting to achieve an optical design that is resistant even to strong backlighting.

To enable excellent image quality and an open aperture of F1.8, the Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) has been further developed. We optimized the layout and shape of the individual components so that the HSM is now 30% smaller. The slimmer design of the HSM is a crucial prerequisite for developing a zoom lens that combines an aperture of F1.8 with high image quality.
