Product details
The 55SH is one of the most famous microphones in the world, not least because of its association with Elvis. It has been used at countless events and stages, as well as by numerous well-known musicians and politicians. The 55SH also frequently plays a leading role in films.
Why has the 55SH been so well-known and popular? The Model 55 Unidyne was the first directional microphone with a single diaphragm, introduced in 1939. This groundbreaking development made microphones smaller and more affordable. Its extreme robustness and resistance to feedback quickly brought the direct predecessor of the 55SH to the world’s major stages. The 55SH is the direct successor to the Model 55, but with a smaller housing (the "S" in this case stands for "small").
Can the 55SH still be used professionally today? The 55SH still delivers a sound that professionally reproduces vocals and speech. The shock mount prevents footfall noise, and the self-adjusting swivel adapter offers many options for positioning the microphone on stage.
What distinguishes the 55SH from the modern Super 55? Essentially, the modern Super 55 and the classic 55SH only share the outer design with the chrome-plated cast housing. The Super 55 employs modern microphone technology. The result is a contemporary sound, maximum feedback resistance, and reduced handling noise. The Super 55 does not have an on/off switch, and the color of the pop filter is sapphire blue instead of anthracite.
Summary: Classic design, frequency response optimized for speech and vocals, cardioid pattern, shock mount minimizes footfall noise for trouble-free operation, pop filter reduces distracting breath and wind noises, solid chrome-plated cast housing, integrated swivel stand flange.
