Product details
The 55SH is one of the most famous microphones in the world, not least because of its association with Elvis. It has been used at countless events and stages, as well as by numerous well-known musicians and politicians. The 55SH often plays a leading role in films as well.
Why has the 55SH been so well-known and popular? The Model 55 Unidyne was the first directional microphone with a single diaphragm, introduced in 1939. This groundbreaking development made microphones smaller and more affordable. Its extreme robustness and resistance to feedback quickly brought the direct predecessor of the 55SH to the major stages around the world. The 55SH is the direct successor to the Model 55, but with a smaller housing (the "S" stands for "small" in this case).
Can the 55SH still be used professionally today? The 55SH still delivers a sound that reproduces vocals and speech professionally. The shock mount prevents handling noise, and the self-adjusting swivel adapter offers many options for positioning the microphone on stage.
What distinguishes the 55SH from the modern Super 55? Essentially, the modern Super 55 and the classic 55SH only share the outer design with the chrome-plated die-cast housing. The Super 55 utilizes modern microphone technology. The result is a contemporary sound, maximum resistance to feedback, and reduced handling noise. The Super 55 omits the on/off switch, and the color of the pop filter is sapphire blue instead of anthracite.
Summary: Classic design, frequency response optimized for speech and vocals, cardioid pickup pattern, shock mount minimizes handling noise for trouble-free operation, pop filter reduces disruptive breath and wind noises, solid chrome-plated die-cast housing, integrated swivel stand flange.
