The 85mm lens from Samyang is an ideal focal length, providing a focus on the essentials. On a full-frame camera, its image angle of 29° offers the optimal concentration on the image element. When the 85/1.4 is used on an APS-C camera, it presents an image angle of 19°, which is roughly equivalent to the image impression of a 135mm lens. The same 85mm on a 4/3 camera has an image effect similar to that of a 170mm full-frame camera, all while maintaining an aperture of 1.4. This very practical light intensity of 1.4 never changes, providing not only an extremely bright viewfinder but also the possibility of subject isolation through minimal depth of field. The lens is very well corrected and impresses with excellent and distortion-free imaging performance. Its very compact design ensures pleasant handling with a balanced center of gravity.

Outstanding Light Intensity
Thanks to its high light intensity, this Samyang lens allows for the use of very short exposure times or lower ASA values. This significantly reduces image noise on digital cameras. The large initial aperture with shallower depth of field optimizes the position of the focus plane in the viewfinder. A practical side benefit of the high light intensity is the ability to highlight/isolate the subject against a blurred foreground or background.

High-Quality Optics and Mechanics
The lens is equipped with internal focusing and offers a minimum focusing distance of 100 cm. With 9 lenses in 7 groups, it is constructed with great care, designed for optimal performance even at wide open apertures. During focusing, internal lens elements are shifted: thus, the length of the lens does not change, and the 72mm filter thread does not rotate during focusing. The iris diaphragm features 8 blades and creates an almost circular aperture shape. The transition into the blur is harmonious with fine bokeh.
