Product details
Versatile wide-angle lens with high light intensity. The Samyang 35/1.2 lens is the ideal focal length for ready-to-shoot documentary work. When combined with an 85 mm lens, it is always the right choice. The outstanding advantage of the 35 mm lies in its distortion-free performance: it captures more image on the sensor without the typical wide-angle distortions or converging lines. The very high aperture of 1.2 allows for a reserve of up to 3 stops compared to a standard zoom lens. The brightness is also noticeable in the viewfinder, providing confidence in focusing. The very shallow depth of field at wide open makes it easier to set focus precisely.
The lens features internal focusing. Lens groups are shifted internally, so the length of the lens does not change, and the front element does not rotate during focusing. Graduated and polarizing filters can therefore be easily attached (size 62 mm).
Nine lens elements in seven groups demonstrate an enormous effort to achieve a powerful and high-quality optic. One lens is aspherical, and two others feature high-refractive glasses. Despite the medium angle of view, there are hardly any optical errors even at full aperture.
Lenses designed for cameras with APS-C sensors can partially (mainly using an adapter) be used on full-frame sensor cameras. However, due to the significantly smaller image circle of APS-C lenses, the edges will appear black. Therefore, the usable area of the image taken with a full-frame camera corresponds to that of a camera with an APS-C sensor. The images will need to be cropped in post-processing.
