Samsung's PM893 SSDs feature power loss protection (PLP). During normal shutdown periods, the host server provides time to maintain data integrity by sending a standby command to each device. However, in the event of an unexpected power failure, the cached data in the internal DRAM buffers of a storage device may be lost. This can occur during unexpected power failures or when users disconnect devices from the system. However, the Samsung PM893 and SSDs are designed to prevent data loss due to unexpected power failures with their PLP architecture. When a power failure is detected, the SSD immediately utilises the stored energy of its PLP capacitors to gain enough time to transfer the data cached in the DRAM to the flash memory so that no data loss occurs.
