Made for alpine missions from huts to high-altitude tours, Salewa sends its overworked Mountain Trainer 28 into the race. Striking: the orange-coloured, highly structured back panel with many cut-outs. Although it doesn't evaporate any better than the other contact backs in the test field, it hardly absorbs any moisture and dries quickly, for example during breaks...

Product details
Designed for hiking and via ferrata, the Mountain Trainer 2 features a body-hugging Dry Back carrying system and split shoulder straps for improved breathability, freedom of movement and a snug fit. The slim, agile 28-litre version has a lid pocket and an easily accessible front compartment.
Dry Back Contact
The Dry Back Contact carrying system ensures that the load is carried close to the body while keeping your back dry. This is achieved by reducing the contact area and 3D ventilation channels, which ensure greater evaporation per cm² than with traditional constructions and a reduction in temperature in the centre back area. The two-part compression system and a hip belt that completely encloses the hips and is equipped with an additional equipment loop for via ferrata carabiners and a mesh pocket guarantee that the backpack fits well and the load is optimally distributed.
Stability and control
For more stability and improved control, our Twin Compression System (TCS) has an upper and a lower compression area that allow you to easily regulate the volume. This means you can always stabilise the load centrally. The lightweight split shoulder straps give your arms plenty of freedom of movement and further reduce the contact surface, so you sweat less and air can circulate better.
Mountain-specific features
This backpack is made for the mountains: it offers attachment options for ice axes and trekking poles, a rain cover, easily accessible mesh side pockets, daisy chain loops, a pocket integrated into the hip belt and other functional details. The Mountain Trainer 2 is made from a robust, recycled 210 denier ripstop nylon using sustainable production methods and is a SALEWA® Committed product.

- very good wearing comfort
- Hip pad/hip belt cannot be removed
A comfortable backpack with (significantly) more volume than the manufacturer states. Good all-rounder as long as you don't wear a climbing harness.
