Solis has totally dropped in quality

With the new line "Grind + Infuse" Solis has massively reduced in terms of quality. We had an earlier model (Barista Pro). This has convinced, but is now defective after almost 10 years.
We then ordered the model Grind +
Infuse and were just disappointed. No comparison! This does not justify even the slightly lower price compared to before.
The most significant changes are: All components much lighter, inferior materials, screen holder and inserts look really cheap. The water tank has already fallen apart when unpacking, etc., etc.... I advise against Solis! Unfortunately, was once good.

Very good coffee machine provided that...

I read several negative comments about this machine, but I decided to buy it anyway because of the price and the brand. After a month of use, I have no regrets. It is a semi-automatic machine and it takes a little patience to master it. For the pressurised filters (double wall), you can use normal commercial coffee, I advise you to put the grinder on number 3 and then you adjust it to the margin, this is the simple and faultless (and economical) version. For the non-pressurized filter (simple walls) you need more control, you absolutely need fresh coffee, i.e. with a roasting date within 4-6 weeks (if there is no date, then it's not a good idea to use the filter). If you don't have a roasting date, then it's not fresh, go to Globus or a specialised coffee shop (expect to pay about 8fr per 250gr), then I advise you to put the grinder on 2.5 or 3, distribute the coffee well and then apply a little pressure with the tamper. This last way requires more investment but once mastered the coffee is very good.this machine does not forgive old coffee beans, each dose of coffee requires a small ritual. If you don't have the patience, go for the automatic daughter machines.

    Pro

    • Pressurised filters for 1 and 2 cups
    • Non-pressurised filters for 1 and 2 cups
    • ESE filter
    • Milk jug
    • Powerful and adjustable mill
    • Buffer included
    • GOOD COFFEE
    • Adjustable water quantity
    • Adjustable coffee quantity

    Contra

    • The grinder puts a little coffee on the side
    • You have to invest some time at the beginning

Not remotely as good as other products in the same line

We had a different Solis machine, the Grind and Infuse Pro, for five years, and then a year ago when it finally needed service I allowed the salesman (not Galaxus) to offer me an "upgrade" to this machine, the Compact for the cost of the support contract I had already paid for.

On the plus side the compact - when it works - does make excellent espresso. However, it is a very fussy and hard to maintain machine, and worst of all, suffers from a design flaw which makes it not only possible, but easy to damage the aluminium extraction group.

This coupled with a static-electric effect which tends to toss grounds in all directions makes it maybe a decent machine for a welding workshop or auto mechanic's shop, but not something you want in your kitchen.

If you're buying one used (from me, for example) it's probably worth it, but if you are looking for a new machine skip ahead to the Sage/Solis/Breville Barista Pro, which really is an upgrade and for only a few franks more.

    Very disappointing coffee machine

    Pro

    • Good coffee with a lot of effort

    Contra

    • Poor workmanship
    • Materials cheap
    • Descaling felt every 10 days
    • Why does the machine have to be operated with a descaling cartridge if you have soft water?
