Disposable product with limited shelf life

Unfortunately, the hard drive gave up the ghost after barely two weeks. And this is where the dilemma begins: I could have simply exchanged or repaired it under warranty, but unfortunately I had already saved personal data on the hard drive. For data protection reasons, I could not simply return it.
So I opened the case to separate the actual hard drive from the S-ATA -> USB3.0 converter. If only the converter had been broken, I could have put the disk into a new enclosure and used it again. But unfortunately the hard drive itself turned out to be defective - I had no choice but to scrap it.
Buying a new one is also out of the question, firstly because of the above-mentioned experience, and secondly because Digitec has raised the price from 85 CHF to 105 CHF within two weeks :-(
When I dismantled the case, I noticed that everything is very cheaply made and not the least bit maintenance-friendly. The hard drive itself does not have a continuous metal cover, but is only protected against dust with a self-adhesive plastic film.
The one star is for the beautiful appearance of the hard drive.
What I learned from this: Data on a mobile hard drive MUST be encrypted - definitely within the warranty period ;-)
