Very good. I was able to use my sigma teleconverter without loss of aperture which remains at 5.6. Well with the converter there is a bit of loss of quality but it is acceptable. I have a sigma 150-600 for my canon and I hardly use it anymore. Very happy

Thanks to made in China at an attractive price. The quality of the images is of the usual Nikon level. Due to the higher plastic content of the housing, at 2.3 kg it also weighs less than comparable Nikon lenses. On the other hand, it will not be quite as robust against "hard use". For normal use, however, it is quite sufficient.
The excellent image stabiliser with which hand-held shots at 1/40s are possible should be emphasised.
I would buy it again.

I am thrilled with the quality of this AF-S 200-500. There is not nearly an alternative in this price range.
On the Nikon D-7200 I own, it has an excellent VR and very good handling.
A report worth reading:

I have owned it since 17.09.15 and would not give it up. After the first test pictures, great sharpness and wonderful bokeh, fits very well with the Nikon D750 and D810. With 2x converter only manual focus possible, with 1.4x converter also AF.
Auto focus with D750 extremely fast. Good weight distribution on tripod.

Not exactly the lightest in its class, but an all-round great lens! After I was never really satisfied with the Tamron 600 of the first generation at the long end, there is nothing at all to complain about with this 500. Of course, 100mm focal length is less noticeable, but so far I have never been in a situation where that was really a disadvantage. The continuous aperture of f/5.6 also has a very positive effect, as you are grateful for every bit of light at the long end.
Conclusion: I don't regret changing from the Tamron for a second and, despite the slightly higher weight, I am completely satisfied.

For all those who are looking for a range > 300mm and don't have the money for the exotic Nikkor primes (400mm f2.8, 500mm f4, 600mm, ...) the 200-500mm is an excellent and affordable alternative.
I use it on a D500 and am very happy with the sharpness and image performance. The image stabilisation is extremely good, you can still take sharp pictures handheld at 1/60s at 500mm.
The autofocus is quite fast and very precise. In some situations, however, the lens takes up to half a second before refocusing, which can be problematic, especially with BIF. The 300mm f/4 PF behaves much better. But this happens rarely enough to be really annoying.
For longer trips I would recommend a monopod with a tilt head, as the heavy weight of about 2.3kg becomes quite heavy over time. Otherwise you can hold the lens in your hand.
The 200-500mm is compatible with the TC14e-III, but the sharpness decreases significantly and you only have an aperture of f8. Autofocus then only works with "newer" cameras.
