+ Even with not-too-expensive headphones, the difference in audio quality with this device is significant.
+ Very good build quality, feels heavy and solid - won't move if your USB cable or headphone cable moves.
+ Works out of the box on Ubuntu.

Bought to connect to Linux desktop (Ubuntu Linux), as well as from Apple TV.
Should give me a clean signal on the RCA output and drive my headphones without problems (AKG K550). Does its job so far without problems.

I bought the product in 2015 and was satisfied with it. However, the plastic (black part) that covers the entire front and back has become extremely sticky. Seems to be a common problem. Makes using the device extremely uncomfortable

This DAC is great!
It is very well made, the sound quality is very good, it is compatible with Windows and OSX in Plug and Play and all this for a very reasonable price.
One of the only points that bothers me is the fact that the jack output is 3.5mm and not 6.3mm; the standard for Hi-Fi equipment.
A must-have!

Bought the DAC elsewhere, but still want to give my review here.
First the workmanship. I was surprised how good the build quality is. Metal housing, the volume control is also metal and turns extremely smoothly with a slight resistance. The case panels at the back and front are rubberized, but seem very high quality. All plugs fit nice and tight, all contacts are gold plated, even on the USB cable. The device is smaller than you would expect and makes a noble impression.
I use the DAC on my iMac 5K Late 2015. My goal was to increase quality and volume and not always have to fiddle with the back of the Mac when I plug in the headphones.
Positives I find:
- I can now leave the headphones plugged in permanently. When I turn off the DAC, it automatically switches to the Mac's internal speakers and vice versa.
- Plug it in and it works, very easy.
Neutral:
- My headphones are now no louder than on the jack output of the Mac. Is a piece of music rather quiet recorded, the volume is often not enough. Is then probably due to the 250 ohms of my headphones.
- The sound quality is only slightly better in my case. It sounds a little fuller and more detailed. I noticed the difference but only in the direct switching (with Lossless files via iTunes and VLC)
- Because of the digital output via USB from the Mac, the volume can now no longer be adjusted via the keyboard (would be the same with Toslink), but only on the device itself or in the music program
- The device slides around on the table --> stick on rubber feet
The headphone is a Beyerdynamic DT 990 Edition, 250 Ohm. So definitely something good.
Conclusion. Fine device, excellent quality. But who uses high-impedance headphones, should possibly look for a more potent device. 250 Ohm is just fine.
I connect my Lenovo laptop (win 11) via analog-in to Marantz M-CR612 (Melody X) for hifi music listening (dj mix software). Also to listen with my Sony headset. Very satisfied with the quality sound and the easy plug-in and play. Strongly recommend.
