I bought this device as a test device to test the following scenario, which has not been tested anywhere on the internet in a reliable way: Gamestreaming in HD with 60 fps incl. HD cam, microphone, stream deck. Simultaneous live streaming as well as recording and gaming (WoW graphics on 5, Legion). And subsequent video editing with FCPX.
The SSD is damn fast. The internal graphics unit is sufficient for "light" gaming, but is then heavily utilised. The CPU is more than sufficient for the above-mentioned case, the fans of the device were running at around 50%.
Please note, I ran both the game and the streaming software OBS on an external screen via an RX 580 8GB e-GPU with a Sonnet GFX box and was thus able to leave the internal graphics card completely idle. Only the CPU was used and ran at around 70-80 degrees with around 50-60% fan power. The device was therefore barely audible and did not run particularly hot and yet I managed a livestream in HD and 60 FPS including its record on the disk and simultaneous gaming of GPU intensive games. And after all that, I just ejected the egpu, unplugged one cable of the USBc adapter and sat on the sofa with a fully charged Macbook pro and watched something on Netflix or started editing the videos.
Flexibility at its best!
For the next stream, I plug 2 cables into the MBP, press 2 buttons on the stream deck and off I go again :)
Had a 2900 Fr gaming PC with 100 cables before for the same application :) and also a laptop for mobile use. When I add up all the tedious "setup and annoying hours" that I save with this setup, I am extremely happy to have bought this MBP. The test is now over and Apple is bringing the 2018 model with i9 CPU.... I will be prepared for the future :)
