Product details
Although many amateur radio operators still work with classic HF and mobile radio equipment, the use of computers and digital techniques has become very popular. Nowadays, anyone can buy a Raspberry Pi computer for about 40 EUR and run almost any amateur radio software on the RPi. RTL-SDR devices are very popular among amateur radio operators because they are affordable and offer many features. A basic system can consist of a USB-based RTL-SDR dongle with a suitable antenna, an RPi computer, a USB-based external audio input/output adapter, and software installed on the RPi. With such a simple setup, it is possible to receive signals from about 24 MHz to over 1.7 GHz. This book is aimed at amateur radio operators who want to learn how to build electronic projects with the Raspberry Pi. The book is suitable for a wide range of users, from beginners to seasoned veterans in amateur radio. The step-by-step installation of the operating system is described in detail, along with the most common Linux commands. Some knowledge of the Python programming language is required to understand and work on the projects described in the book. The example projects developed in the book include a station clock, a signal generator, the design of a transistor amplifier, the design of an active filter, a Morse code practice device, a frequency counter, an HF meter, and much more. For each project, the block diagram, schematic, and complete Python source code are provided, along with a full description of the projects. In addition to the comprehensive coverage of RTL-SDR for amateur radio, the book also summarizes the installation and usage instructions for the following amateur radio programs that you can run on your Raspberry Pi: TWCLOCK, Klog, Gpredict, FLDIGI, DIRE WOLF, xcwcp, QSSTV, LinPsk, Ham Clock, CHIRP, xastir, and CQRLOG.
