Ok, I fixed it by restarting macOS. Strange, not something you would expect on a Mac. It's more like a typical Windows fix. The version of macOS is Ventura 13.2. Anyway, it works perfectly now. Problem solved.

the write and read speed is not changed by the connection. usb 3 already transfers 5GB per second. no disk can do that. therefore a stupid and pointless consideration.
