Hello, is this macro flash really compatible with the Canon hot shoe? Or does it not need to be connected to the camera (continuous light)?

It is a fully manual flash where you have to regulate the power. The guide number given on digitec is wrong, that is the one for "feet". For metres it has a guide number of 58 - although neither the distance nor the ISO is simply not specified on the Laowa website - so you can get even a weak flash to a high guide number ;) More info here: https://www.venuslens.net/product/macro-twin-flash-kx-800/ I don't think Canon flash shoes have different dimensions than other cameras - but I assume your question was about TTL metering? Answer: No, it does not work.
