It all works without ever turning on the Wi-Fi on the device, so it works without an account. I do it exactly as you suggested.
I'm afraid I don't know.
I have the device: I can easily (via USB cable, via cloud or directly via the Tolino web browser) load any purchased books or PDFs or books borrowed from a library onto it. However, the integrated shop is Orell Füssli, i.e. if I want to buy a book via the shop on the Tolino, then it is with Orell Füssli. Likewise, the login for the cloud is via the Orell Füssli account, i.e. it is almost mandatory (the sentence before says "The tolino shine 3 cannot be linked to the Weltbild account").

It has been available to order since the beginning of October: tolino shine 4 (6 ", 16 GB) :-)
I recently got Sunrise - and it worked. (I can't explain why it shouldn't work if it's connected to the WiFi properly...)

Normally, the Tolinos are delivered with either Orell Füssli or Weltbild in Switzerland... but that doesn't limit you, because you can connect several bookshops to your Tolino. Simply go to the menu and select "My accounts". Then click on "Library link" and you can register Weltbild or other accounts. Weltbild.ch/weltbild.de and weltbild.at are listed there. Select your shop and log in with your shop login data. You should then be able to synchronise the books on your Tolino. Please note that you need to connect your Tolino to the WLAN for this to work!

Hello, yes, having bought it I can confirm that French is available as standard.
You will also find books in Italian, but we have no information on the actual quantity available. It is likely to be the same problem as in other stores.

First carry out the update. Afterwards, the Tolino should be recognised by Windows.

Yes, this should not be a problem.
The shine 3 is not, but the tolino vision 4 HD is.
