My bundle contained four WD Red Plus 4 TB, 3.5", CMR hard drives. The spindle speed is 7200 rpm. The noise level is okay. In normal operation, the NAS is only minimally audible, but is significantly louder under load. My device stands on a solid surface and is barely audible during operation. On a cabinet or a hollow body, however, a humming noise can occur. The warranty is two years under Swiss law. So far I am very satisfied.

Hello. Ideally 4 drives of the same size. It doesn't matter what the capacity is. I left the configuration recommended by Synology after seeing a few comparisons. Very easy to install. The DSM is already installed, there is only some information to give but very simple.

A NAS alone is not a backup, backups must also be made from it, the 3-2-1 backup rule should be observed. RAID1 is also not optimal because 50% of the storage space is lost for redundancy. It might be better to choose a NAS that can hold 5 or 6 disks and then set it up with RAID5 SHR, because if you use more disks, you can optimise the available storage by using smaller disks (6 x 8 instead of 4 x 12 gives 40 TB gross storage space in RAID5). Since an 8 GB disk costs less than a 12 GB disk, it may also be worthwhile to take a larger NAS. Synology DS1621+ (0 TB)
