Well, I think the ANC of the XM4 is awesome. Since the XM3 was already very strong, I can't really say whether it is substantially better. At the moment, I don't have the test locations (aeroplane, for example).
I don't know the Apple product you use, so I can't compare. The Sony headphones work for me, the sound quality and noise reduction are excellent. For these two points the headphones squeeze the head a bit to surround the ears, but that's the way it has to be for it to work well. The best thing would be to try it out.

The Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones are not specifically designed for use with Sony cameras such as the FX3 for listening while filming. However, they can be connected to a camera via a 3.5 mm jack connection if the camera has such a connection. Specialised audio or monitoring systems are usually more suitable for use with cameras.
The connections of the 1.2 m cable are not explicitly described as identical. The cable usually has a 3.5 mm jack connection, which is used for analogue audio transmission. There is no specific information that both ends of the cable have the same connections.
The supplied headset cable for the Sony headphones has a gold-plated L-shaped stereo mini-jack plug (3.5 mm) and is approximately 1.2 metres long. It enables connection to a playback device via a jack.
The scope of delivery of the Sony WH-1000XM4 includes the headphones themselves, a carrying case, a headset cable (approx. 1.2 m), a USB-C cable and a flight adapter.
The over-ear headphones do not have an SD card slot. Music can be played via Bluetooth or a 3.5 mm jack cable from an external device, but direct playback from an SD card is not possible.
My autistic daughter, 13 years old and slim (also head), wears these headphones almost all day. They have never slipped off her head.
She loves them, I don't.
The headphones have a sensor in one ear cup that presses on my ear.
With headphones, I would do a wear test if at all possible.
Or simply make use of the 30-day exchange period. Then this shouldn't be a problem.
Yes, the product is compatible with all Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad and Macs. It supports Bluetooth connections available on most Apple devices. Macs require macOS version 10.10 or higher.
The Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) on the Sony WH-1000XM4 only works when using Bluetooth or when connected via the internal battery, but not when connected via the audio jack. If you use the headphones via the 3.5mm TRS cable, you can only receive audio, but the ANC and microphone functions are deactivated in this mode.
