I often use them to make phone calls - so far no one has ever complained. Takes some getting used to: when talking on the phone, the headphones switch to ambient sound.

I have had these headphones for some time. I can use the left one individually, but not the right one. I don't know if the right one should work too.
According to the manufacturer, they are only protected against splash water. So no.
As far as I know, the difference is that the 700 is water and sweat resistant. I find the SP700N good, comfortable and with the rechargeable case I have never had empty batteries. However, I miss the kick in the sound, I think Sony still has to work on that...
