I purchased this as a 16TB SSD and it clearly is not. Best speeds I can get is 248MB/s write and 213 MB/s read speeds which is almost useless for 6K video editing which is what I purchased it for. As for whisper quiet? Not true either since you can clearly here the spinning drive rattling inside as it reads and writes. It also takes a few seconds to start up. This item should not be listed under External SSD. Very disappointed and will be returning it.

The 16TB product comes without an SSD inside, only a 16TB spinning drive which is slow and this combination this is overpriced. You are better off getting the unpopulated STX and purchasing a 16TB drive separately then you have some money over to put towards an M.2 SSD. This should not be listed under External SSD.

I know what you mean. It is kind of an external SSD with more potential. But we do not have another more specific product category where we could put it in.

Why does the OWC mini Stack STX not show which storage medium is installed in the specification? That would be very helpful to know above an HDD, SSD or an NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD for an order. Thank you for a more detailed specification

I had a 16T Toshiba HDD (MG08ACA16TE) installed on the SATA port. The NVMe M.2 2280 slot was still free.

The scope of delivery includes the following: (1) OWC miniStack STX, power supply, Thunderbolt (USB-C) cable, Quick Start Guide. The transfer speed is specified by the manufacturer as 770MB/s.

Information is about maximum theoretical speed when device is connected to the Thunderbolt 4 port up to 40 Gb/s (5000 MB/s), it idoes not reffer to the preinstalled drive in the device

More than one question: 1. Does it already contain the 16TB disk? 2. Is it alimented by a usb-c cable (PD at which wattage?) or in what other way? Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, the miniStack STX 16.0TB includes a pre-installed 16TB hard disk drive. It comes ready to use with the full storage capacity. 2 The miniStack STX is not powered solely by a USB-C cable. It requires a separate power supply for operation. The unit comes with an external power adapter that needs to be connected to a power source. The USB-C interface is used for data transfer between the Mac mini and the miniStack STX.
